WES Concert info

Hi all!  Looking forward to a sparkling jingling special night on December 9, 2025, 7:45 pm in the WES gym!

Student info:

The gr 5-8 concert follows the gr 3/4 concert, so make sure not to come too early.

 7:30

Gr 5 students go to the band room.   Gr 6 students go to the pit.

Gr 7/8 students go to the library.

7:45 concert starts

Band Dress:  Wear solid Black bottoms and solid White or Black top.  No stripes, dots, or pictures.  I have some white or black shirts to borrow if you don’t have one.

Concert sequence:  Gr 5 band, Jazz Choir, Gr 6 band, Jazz band, gr 7/8 band

Important notes for all:

Any students watching the other earlier (younger) concert must sit with their parents.

Parents and Grandparents take note, the Dress Rehearsal is open to you and will be at 2:00pm in the gym (same day).  You can attend this to avoid the busy concert evening.

Please practice your Christmas songs at home by yourself to prepare.   Everyone should make their best effort for the team.

I’m looking forward to this.  I hope you enjoy it too!

June Listening activity

Hi Students. Time to listen and find some band songs!

You'll be going to Stanton's listening lab where there are searchable recording of band songs.
  1. click the link
  2. either use the search window

(if you have a title in mind) or
  3. click on one of the categories in the Elementary School area.
4.

You can listen to any of the band music you want.  But if you want to make a suggestion for a song you think we should order, here is what to look for:
  1. It has to be in the Concert Band category
  2. It has to be lower than level 2 (in most cases).  Level 2 songs are like our gr 8 level, the hardest songs we've done.  So look for level 0.5, level 1, level 1.5.
  3. If you find something like this, write the title and composer on the whiteboard in the area Ms. Rainke shows you.  I'll see if it's possible to get it when I see the list later.
Have fun!

Lean on Me

Lean on Me is an amazing song, written and performed by Bill Withers in 1971.  Many of my bands played it this year, or were working on it.
Here is a recording of the original.
I played along with this today, by ear.  If you want to try it, here are some of the starting notes for you.

[start playing when he starts humming]

A Treat for the Clarinetists among you

I usually post trombone stuff.
But this is CLARINETASTIC!
This was posted April 19, just 10 days ago.  All these people are stuck at home like you and using their time to make joy and music for us!

My Video Experiment #1

I always love those multi-player video recordings people post to YouTube.   Here is one by one of my trombone heroes, Christopher Bill.  This one is not me...

Here is one of my first attempts.  Song- "As the Deer" by Martin Nystrom.  I guess i have a long way to go, but it is UNBELIEVABLY FUN making these!
